This lovely 116-(ish) K (~72 miles) ride willnot just take you to the State capital, it will be a reassuring test of yourreadiness for the actual RFTF. Among the many desirable features of thisbeloved ride is that it can be started and ended at various convenientlocations, making it a wonderful training opportunity, regardless of thedistance you plan to ride for RFTF. The point of this ride is to train but alsoto have as much fun as possible in the process.
Important notes:
The full ride includes urban and suburban roads. We try to maximize the use ofbike/pedestrian trails or marked bike lanes. However, sometimes bike lanes arenext to car traffic. In addition, some sections of the ride will not be onmarked bike lanes or trails, and we will compact the group for safety in thesesituations. We take great pride in never having lost a rider during the ride, but if you are uncomfortable riding on a street, you might want to stick withthe part from Lindale MS to end of the B&A trail. From the end of the trailto Annapolis, there is no alternative to riding on Rt. 450 (marked bike lane, for the most part), including the bridge. Keep in mind that the RFTF goesthrough roads, too.
This ride is very flexible in terms of how you want to do it and where you wishto start. We assume that most riders will join the ride at Alfredo’s house, orat Woodberry stop, or at Lindale MS, but we will accommodate ridersjoining/ending at other points. However, please show up on time as we planto stick to rideout times. We will make directions available so riderswho arrive late at a location will know where to go to catch up with the group.
Take your lunch money with you. In Annapolis, we have a tradition of sitting ata respectable joint and consuming a decent lunch. The tradition calls forcrabcakes and beers (hence the ride moniker!), but we respect all food choices, including if you decide to bring your protein bars and consume them withwonderful electrolytes-laced fluids.
