Our volunteer services department is stronger than ever with the team of Volunteer Manager Angie Kelley, Volunteer Services Assistant Lauren Caro, and Volunteer Services Support Jordan Haley. Angie has been in her position since 2016 and both Lauren and Jordan joined the team this fall.

Lauren and her husband Len have a long history as volunteers for Moveable Feast. He’s delivered meals to clients as a volunteer driver for the past seven years, and Lauren served as an administrative assistant to the board several years ago and occasionally volunteered in the kitchen.

She officially retired from her full-time career a year ago and was very excited to join Moveable Feast working part time. Although she was familiar with how the organization operated, she says she didn’t realize how much work is involved in managing the daily volunteers. “It’s monitoring numbers constantly to make sure the kitchen is at capacity. Otherwise, the mission is not being met.”

Jordan works weekends since during the week she is a student at Johns Hopkins University, studying to be a clinical mental health counselor. With prior experience working with volunteers, Jordan says her position is a great fit for her because she loves talking to people and finding out why they want to volunteer.
“I’ve met a lot of really great people. At a Meet The Feast (New Volunteer Orientation) they all exchanged numbers afterwards.” This group had never met each other before coming to Moveable Feast. Jordan says it’s very rewarding to be a part of the process of the enormous workload volunteers accomplish.

This team has been powering through a busy volunteering season of holidays. In addition to keeping regular shifts filled, they’ve organized deliveries on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, which involves an enormous amount of extra volunteers, gifts for clients, and routes.

We Need Your Support Now More Than Ever

In this ever-changing environment, Moveable Feast’s mission and dedication to providing free, home-delivered meals to Maryland’s most vulnerable residents has not changed. Our work is even more crucial during a time like this, as many of our critically ill clients are home bound, living well below the poverty line, and may not have immediate access to food.
