Medical Nutrition Therapy
For our clients food is as important as medicine. It helps them strengthen their body and helps them to better fight disease. Our dietitians and chefs create menus that are medically appropriate, nutritious and tasty to meet the health and nutrition needs of our clients. Meals are made in our state of the art kitchen using the freshest foods available.
We use proven nutrition strategies to help our clients fight their diseases.
Through home visits and phone counseling, our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN’s) work with clients to create individualized nutrition plans. They set realistic goals and discuss lifestyle changes that will improve clients eating habits and long term health.
Within two weeks of coming onto Moveable Feast’s meal service, clients schedule their first visit with one of our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. A typical appointment (45 mins) includes:
- A review of the client’s health background
- A nutrition assessment where the dietitian measures the client’s weight, waist circumference, and body composition/fat stores.
- Personal goal-setting (e.g. having the client drink one glass of water each morning/night)
- Discussion about the client’s specific meal plan to determine if they need for example, a renal or diabetic diet or if they prefer a vegetarian diet or one that doesn’t include red meat.
Medical Nutrition Therapy helps clients manage their illness, their medications, and their medical treatments.
Through home visits we can observe our clients living conditions, take note of their support systems, examine food availability, and in general gain a better understanding of how they live and how we can help.
Our dietitians advise clients on how, when, and what to eat and drink ensure that the clients medications can do their job and to improve our clients day to day life.
Through good nutrition, 83% of our clients have been able to maintain or improve their symptom management.
