Reminder: Dining Out for
Life is Thursday, March 14, 2002
Dining out for life, Moveable Feast’s
annual fundraising event, has been set for
Thursday, March 14th. John Mantis, owner of
Bacchus Ltd. Importers, and Nancy Longo,
owner of PierPoint Restaurant have worked
very hard to make this remarkable event a
huge success. Nearly 150 restaurants
throughout Maryland have agreed to donate a
portion of each customer’s food and beverage
tab, (from 15 percent to 50 percent) to
Movable Feast. More than $50,000 is expected
to be raised from this community-wide event.
The funds will be used to provide homebound
people with HIV/AIDS with freshly prepared,
nutritionally appropriate meals. You can
make this event a record-setting success by
inviting your friends and family to dine
with you at one of the participating
restaurants. Be sure to tell them that you
want a portion of your check to go to help
Moveable Feast reach more people with
life-saving, nutritious meals. Please visit
www.mdcommunitykitchen.org/events.htm
for a list of participating restaurants in
your area or call Moveable Feast at

Moveable Feast Web Site Has a New Look!
Our web site,
www.mdcommunitykitchen.org, has been
redesigned to better serve its viewers. This
site has information on Moveable Feast's
various programs, volunteer opportunities,
events, and nutrition, and HIV and AIDS. You
also can learn about what new events
Moveable Feast is planning. Additionally,
the site explains the various ways that you
can make a donation to Moveable Feast. For
more information on the web site, email the
webmaster at

We Need Volunteers
MoveableFeast could not survive without
the help of volunteers. There are many
opportunities for you to better serve your
community. Volunteers who can bake homemade
desserts for our clients are desperately
needed. You can either work out of your home
or at the kitchen. Also needed are drivers
who can deliver food to our clients at least
once a month. Volunteer drivers can either
pick meals up at the kitchen or from
conveniently located drop-off sites.
Volunteering to deliver food is an excellent
way to speak with clients and develop
friendships with them. There are also many
other rewarding volunteer opportunities
including being kitchen assistants, grocery
packers and clerical assistants. For more
information on how to volunteer for Moveable
Feast, please call Tom Patrick at
410-327-3420 ext. 31 or email him at
tpatrick@mdcommunitykitchen.org.
Moveable Feast’s most important objective
is to improve the health of its clients by
providing good, nutritious meals. A
registered dietitian, who provides
nutritional counseling and education to all
clients, is a key person on the staff. She
performs a nutritional assessment on all
clients and counsels them on important ways
to improve their health through diet. A
critical part of the assessment and
follow-up counseling is accurately
ascertaining food intake, weight history, as
well as problems with side effects and
medications. Once the dietitian gets an
overall picture of the client's current
condition, she can counsel them on their
nutritional needs and what foods will best
meet them. Good nutrition is very important
to the overall health of clients and that’s
why Moveable Feast has made it such a
priority. For more information on nutrition
or nutritional counseling, please call
Moveable Feast's dietitian, Susan Kopins, at
410-327-3420 ext. 12 or email her at skopins@mdcommunitykitchen.org
